Why? I'm so glad you asked. To protect them from dog-nappers? For research purposes? Nope. The DNA profile will be kept on file so that unclaimed dog poop left on the property can be collected, sent to DNA Pet World, profiled, matched to the offending dog. The negligent owner will then be required to pay a fine of up to $1,000.
According to the article, "Feces identification is a booming business. DNA Pet World and PooPrints - its motto is "Match the Mess through DNA" - are spinoffs from BioPet Vet Labs."
It's totally worth taking the time to check out the PooPrints site. Hilarious.
DNA sequencing is simply a
technique that gives the order of nucleic acids (A, T, G, C) in
someone’s (or some dog's) DNA. This is what the folks are paying $200 to do - get the code for their dog and have that code put into a special database for future use. Then, when a mystery poop sample is received, the same test can be run and the resulting poop's code compared to that database to find the guilty dog. If you'd like to know the specifics of how DNA sequencing works - check out this great Cycle Sequencing Interactive from the DNA Learning Center.

Actually, Chicago dog poop clean up company is cooperating with those DNA testing companies to be able to protect the welfare of not only the dogs but all the possible pets. Many pet-lovers liked the idea cause it'll lessen the cases of pet loss.
I agree on this one! I believe this campaign only wants to impose discipline among dog owners and, yes, among these adorable dogs. In a dog grooming long island clinic, there are tricks also that are taught to dogs when they need to poop in a proper place.
Whenever I walk my dog, I always bring dog grooming kits and poop bag with me. Collecting DNA from dogs is a nice idea so we can detect the owner immediately for his or her dog’s poop.
That's quite a lot of money just to get the dog's finger print. You can actually use that amount to send your pet to a dog boarding in long island when you need to travel.
One good way of maintaining the well-being of our pets is to make sure that we attend to their daily needs concerning their health. This is a good news cause figuring out whether there's something wrong with our pets' wellness will become a lot more easier.
I just stumbled upon your blog and saw this post... I am so making these this weekend!
